WOWICAN calls for sincerity in governance across nation

The Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), under the leadership of Her Eminence General Lady Superintendent Dr. Ayobami Elizabeth Akinadewo, has called for sincerity in governance across the nation.

The group advocated responsible citizenship; collective efforts irrespective of ethnic, political, or religious affiliations; and the embrace of godly guidance for justice and unity as factors needed to drive Nigeria’s development, reports Saturday Guardian.

WOWICAN, in a communique signed by its Chairperson, Akinadewo, disclosed this yesterday, after its second quarter meeting, held in Maiduguri, Borno State.

It also expressed concern over the severe economic hardship currently affecting Nigerian families, especially the rising cost of food, transportation, healthcare, education, and other essential needs.

The Christian body decried the worsening state of insecurity across several parts of Nigeria, including persistent attacks on communities, kidnappings, displacement of families, and threats to lives and property.

It noted with dismay that women and children had continued to bear a disproportionate burden of these crises, with many widowed, displaced, traumatised, and left without adequate protection or support.

WOWICAN called on the federal and state governments, including all security agencies, to intensify efforts toward securing lives and property across the nation, especially in vulnerable communities.

The group also appealed to state governments to strengthen emergency response mechanisms, ensure justice for victims of attacks, and prosecute perpetrators of violence in accordance with the law.

The Christian body called on churches, agencies, individuals, and Christian organisations across the country to continue to provide spiritual, emotional, and material support to struggling families and vulnerable members of society.

WOWICAN, however, called for increased inclusion of women in peacebuilding, policy formulation, conflict resolution, and community development initiatives, recognising that women are critical stakeholders in nation-building.

It also urged the Office of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the wives of state governors to champion targeted humanitarian and empowerment initiatives for widows, displaced women, and vulnerable families affected by insecurity and economic hardship.”

The communique stated, “WOWICAN urges Nigerian women to remain steadfast in faith, prayer, unity, and mutual support despite prevailing challenges.

“WOWICAN expresses its readiness to partner with the Federal Government, the Office of the First Lady, state governments, and relevant agencies as a trusted channel through which empowerment initiatives, humanitarian support, educational programmes, and development opportunities can effectively reach Christian women, including those at the grassroots level across the nation.”
