Zimbabwe coach impressed by Uyo Stadium ahead of World Cup qualifier

Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees has expressed satisfaction with the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, as he inspects the facility ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier tomorrow.

The Warriors arrived Uyo on Saturday to set up camp at the Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort before holding their first training session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium yesterday, reports Daily Independent.

After their training session, Nees commended the quality of the training pitch, noting particularly its soft yet firm surface, which, according to him, allows for smooth movement and a comfortable playing experience.

“You can see for yourself, we would be happy to have something like this in our own country, really very good and impressive. The training pitch is soft, not too hard. The stadium pitch, I expect even better, he said.

Still searching for their first win in the qualifiers after five matches, the Warriors are looking to turn their campaign around against the Super Eagles.

Nees remains confident that his team can spring a surprise in Uyo, banking on their preparations and quality facilities to mount a strong challenge against Nigeria’s star-studded Super Eagles squad.
