Commission warns Police Inspectors against bribes for promotion

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 12, 2025 2081 Minutes read0

The Police Service Commission has warned Police Inspectors, due for promotion, against financial inducement for the Departmental Selection Board interview.

The Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, gave the warning in a statement released today in Abuja.

Ani said the DSB interview for inspectors due for promotion to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police would be held on May 19 at the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters, reports NAN.

The PSC spokesman said the board interview was a condition for consideration of senior inspectors for promotion to the next rank.

Ani said the Chairman of PSC, Hashimu Argungu, said staff of the commission would be deployed to all the Zonal Command Headquarters to conduct the promotion interview.

Argungu said the interview would be conducted in partnership with officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The PSC chairman had warned the candidates for the interview to desist from contributing money for officials of the commission or the police who would be conducting the interview at the different zones.

“He said the commission would deal ruthlessly with any police officer or its personnel found to be involved in any way, attempting to induce or compromise the officials supervising the exercise.

“Argungu warned that such officers would not only be sanctioned but would also be disgraced.

“The PSC chairman said he was aware of what was obtainable in the past, where contributions were made by the candidates for interview and handed over to the supervising officials.”

The statement said the commission would put an end to the discreditable act and ensure that the DSB was devoid of any financial inducement.

It emphasised that promotion and its processes in the Nigeria Police Force would henceforth be based on merit and availability of vacancies, adding that police inspectors, due for the promotion interview, to be prepared to face the interview panel and earn their promotion.
