•3rd Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Government has reiterated the federal government’s plan to temporarily close the Third Mainland Bridge from Tuesday next week.

A statement by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner of Transport, Lagos, said that the bridge would be shut at 11a.m from January 9, 2024.

Osiyemi explained that the Federal Ministry of Works would continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound for the effective repairs of the entire section of the bridge.

The statement hinted that the closure was part of the ongoing work that started in November, 2023, focusing on fixing the ramps, while the remaining parts of the bridge would now be repaired.

He said that to ease the burden of commuting, from 12am to 12 noon, the bridge would be opened for Mainland inbound Island travels, while those who intended to come from the Island to the Mainland were advised to use Eko Bridge.

Also, from 12noon to 12a.m, Osiyemi said motorists would be able to access the bridge from the Island to the Mainland, while motorists from the Mainland heading towards the Island would have to use Eko Bridge.

The statement added: “These timings have been selected to match the peak period flow of traffic and reduce travel stress. Please cooperate with our traffic management officials who will be helping out.”
