REVEALED: Most popular sex position – Report

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 10, 2025 3391 Minutes read0

A new survey by the Bedbible Research Centre has revealed that doggy style is the most popular sex position worldwide, with 35.1 per cent of respondents identifying it as their favourite.

The comprehensive study, which polled a wide range of participants from different backgrounds, offers a fresh look at modern intimacy and evolving trends in sexual behaviour, reports The Guardian.

Missionary followed in second place with 22.5 per cent, maintaining its reputation as a timeless favourite due to its intimacy and simplicity. Cowgirl secured third place with 19.4 per cent, often celebrated for giving control to the partner on top and creating an empowering dynamic within the relationship.

Other positions featured in the survey include 69 and holding legs up, which both received 4.3 per cent, spooning at 4.1 per cent, reverse cowgirl at 3.9 per cent, oral sex at 3.2 per cent, anal sex at 2.1 per cent and tabletop at 1.2 per cent.

The range of responses demonstrates that while traditional positions remain dominant, there is a growing willingness among couples to experiment and diversify their intimate experiences.

Experts attribute doggy style’s popularity to its versatility, intensity and visibility in mainstream culture.

According to Dr Emily Hart, a sexologist based in New York, the position allows for deep penetration and offers couples both physical excitement and the option of intimacy, which helps explain its broad appeal. Its regular depiction in media and popular culture has also played a part in cementing its place as a top choice.

Meanwhile, missionary continues to resonate for its face-to-face connection, while the growing preference for cowgirl may reflect shifting dynamics in relationships, with couples seeking positions that promote equality and exploration.

The findings of the Bedbible report are consistent with broader research conducted by the Kinsey Institute, which shows that modern couples increasingly value communication and openness in their sexual relationships.

The growing influence of social media has also normalised conversations about intimacy, enabling individuals to share experiences and preferences more freely. This cultural shift has helped reduce stigma, encouraging partners to explore what works best for them.

While doggy style leads the list, the survey also highlights the variety of ways couples connect, from adventurous positions to those prioritising closeness such as spooning.

The report also said that preferences will continue to evolve as discussions around sexual wellness expand and as couples embrace both traditional and experimental approaches to intimacy.
