NABTEB releases 2024 results

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 3, 2024 4631 Minutes read0

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board, (NABTEB), has disclosed that 44,000 of the 67,751 candidates who sat for the 2024 In-School National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and the English Language.

The NABTEB’s acting Registrar, Dr. Nnasia Ndareke Asanga, disclosed this in Benin today during the release of June/July 2022 NABTEB examination results, reports Daily Trust.

He said the 44,000 who obtained five credits including Mathematics and the English Language represented 65.35 percent of the total candidates for the examination.

He added that a total of 62,235 candidates representing 92.42 per cent of the candidates who sat for the same examinations also obtained five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics.

Asanga noted that 67,751 candidates registered for the examination in 1,708 centres across the country.

He said the way industries, enterprises and communities viewed TVET programme as well as a lack of funds and support were affecting technical education in the country.

According to him, appropriate legislations, capacity building for technical education teachers, adequate funding, equipment, establishment of more technical colleges would enhance the TEVT and other technical education programme.

“TVET has the potential to provide the needed nexus between education and unemployment which is the destination in today’s innovation-driven economy,” he added.

Asanga who noted that this year’s performance is lower compared to 2023 performance, said 349 candidates were found to be involved in examination malpractice.

He lamented that the scourge of examination malpractice not only betrays the trust of educators and policy makers but also robs students of the opportunity to develop critical thinking, problem-solving and lifelong learning skills.

“NABTEB has a mandate to conduct examinations and perform skill-based assessments, leading to the award of Business, Vocational and Technical Certificates at both the Ordinary and Advanced levels,” he said.
