Preparations are in full swing for the grand unveiling of one of Africa’s most anticipated football autobiographies, Between Sun and the Shadow: The Story of Tijjani Babangida MON.

The official launch is set for November 18, 2025, in The Netherlands — the country where the former Nigerian international cemented his reputation as one of Africa’s brightest football exports, reports Daily Trust.

Written by acclaimed Dutch sports journalist Roberto Pennino, the book traces the remarkable rise of Tijjani Babangida, the dynamic winger who thrilled fans with his pace and skill at Ajax Amsterdam, Roda JC, and with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Initially published in Dutch, the autobiography has now been translated into English to reach a wider global audience eager to relive Babangida’s inspiring journey.

“Between Sun and the Shadow” offers readers a deeply personal look at Babangida’s life — from his modest beginnings in Nigeria to his emergence as one of the continent’s most celebrated footballers.

The book features unique insights into Nigeria’s 1994 FIFA World Cup campaign, alongside vivid accounts of Babangida’s rise through the European football scene and his unforgettable moments with Ajax and other top clubs.

Beyond recounting his playing career, the book explores Babangida’s enduring dedication to developing young African talent and his efforts to create professional opportunities for aspiring footballers abroad.

It also reveals lesser-known anecdotes, such as how both Babangida and fellow legend Daniel Amokachi began their football journeys as goalkeepers before transforming into prolific attackers.

More than a sports memoir, Pennino’s work is a powerful story of resilience, purpose, and legacy. Hosting the launch in The Netherlands is fitting — a tribute to the place where Babangida’s brilliance shone brightest, symbolising his enduring influence on African football and his role in strengthening the bond between Nigeria and Holland.
