2027 elections: Youthful activist, Abayomi Mighty eyes presidential ticket in ADC, targets January 2026 declaration

•Abayomi Mighty

Development expert and activist Abayomi Rotimi Mighty has formally indicated his intention to seek the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), setting January 2026 as the date for his official declaration and campaign launch.

The Nigerian-born Pan African leader, known for his youthful energy, engagement in community empowerment and advocacy for good governance told The Frontier last night his bid is driven by a desire to offer Nigerians a fresh choice in leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abayomi Mighty’s announcement places him among a growing list of high-profile Nigerians linked to the ADC, an opposition coalition attracting big names from various parties. Figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are widely reported to be weighing options within the alliance, though some have yet to formally join.

Amid these elite contenders, a supporter who spoke to our correspondent said Abayomi Mighty’s bid carries the weight of his grassroots activism and a message of service-oriented leadership. He argued that his years of community work and focus on youth inclusion give him relevance across generations, especially among younger voters who feel disengaged from traditional party politics.

“Abayomi Mighty’s emphasis on unity, education and security resonates with Nigerians weary of recurrent economic and social challenges,” said the supporter.

“While his rivals enjoy name recognition and deep political networks, ADC’s primary process is expected to be open and competitive, giving aspirants like Abayomi Mighty a legitimate platform to vie for the nomination,” the supporter added.
