NNPP nullifies suspension of Kano chairman

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has nullified the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the action as illegal, undemocratic and of no effect.

In a statement issued from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja yesterday, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the NNPP said the move allegedly taken by some executive members of the party in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, was contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution.

The statement, signed by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, said the NWC condemned the action “in the strongest terms,” stressing that a ward executive lacked the constitutional authority to suspend or remove a state chairman.

“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party condemns the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, stating that such action is misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” the statement said.

According to the party, the action by the Gargari Ward executives amounted to a gross act of anti-party conduct, as it violated the extant provisions of the NNPP constitution governing discipline and party hierarchy.

The NWC also commended Dungurawa’s leadership, describing him as a conscientious, hard working and dutiful chairman whose stewardship had contributed significantly to the growth and progress of the party in Kano State.

It said his performance over time had strengthened the NNPP’s structure in the state and should not be undermined by what it termed “questionable actions” at the ward level.

The latest development is coming amid internal tensions within the NNPP in Kano State, following conflicting claims over the leadership of the party and speculations surrounding possible political realignments ahead of future elections.

The NNPP leadership urged party members to abide by the party’s constitution, respect internal democratic processes and avoid actions capable of causing disunity within the party.
