•Road safety officials at scene of an accident

Four people were burnt to death after two vehicles collided at Kwaita village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

A witness said the accident occurred around 4:33 am on Sunday and involved a Toyota Matrix and a J5 Boxer bus, both without registration numbers, reports Daily Trust.

The witness explained that the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Matrix, traveling at high speed from the Lokoja axis, drove against traffic (one-way) and collided head-on with the J5 bus. Both vehicles burst into flames upon impact.

The driver of the Matrix, who was alone in his vehicle, and three occupants of the J5 bus were trapped and burnt beyond recognition.

“Unfortunately, both the driver of the Matrix car and three other people from the J5 bus were trapped after the head-on collision as the vehicles went up in flames,” the witness said.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident.

He stated that the remains of the Matrix driver have been deposited at the Kwali General Hospital morgue, while the bodies of the three other victims have been handed over to their relatives for burial.
