Euro roundup: Real Madrid score 90th minute winner as PSG crash at home

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 7, 2026 831 Minutes read0

Real Madrid returned to winning ways in the Spanish La Liga with a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo on last night.

Following a shock home loss to Getafe last weekend, Real Madrid needed a response to end a two-match losing streak in a fixture that has proved a banana skin for Los Merengues in recent seasons, reports AFP.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side took the lead on 11 minutes through Aurelien Tchouameni who finished off a well-worked corner kick routine with a strike that left the goalkeeper rooted to a spot.

The hosts however equalized following a switch off in defense by Trent Alexander-Arnold who was bullied of the ball before a cross was delivered to Borja Iglesias to restore parity on 25 minutes.

Celta continued to threaten in the second period and veteran Iago Aspas hit the bar with minutes remaining in the match, before Valverde scored the winner four minutes into added time with a deflected long range strike to reduce Barcelona’s lead at the top to only one point.

In France, Paris Saint-Germain lost their unbeaten home record with a 3-1 defeat to rivals Monaco, with the visitors overcoming the league champions through strikes from Maghnes Akliouche, Maghnes Akliouche, and Folarin Balogun. Bradley Barcola scored PSG’s lone goal as Luis Enrique’s side missed the chance to go seven points clear in the title race.

Bayern Munich were, however, able to pull further ahead in the German Bundesliga title race with a 4-1 win over 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach.

Goals from Liz Diaz, Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala’s penalty, and Nicholas Jackson’s late strike saw Bayern cruise past the visitors to open a 14-point gap over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
