JUST IN: Protesters storm ADC secretariat over alleged ₦100 million for FCT council election

Some protesters today staged a protest at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja.

The protesters, who are members of the Advocate for Women in Governance, demanded clarification over allegations that the party disbursed ₦100 million in connection with the recent Federal Capital Territory election, reports The PUNCH.

Addressing journalists during the demonstration, the group’s convener, Amaka Christian, said the protest was aimed at compelling the party’s leadership to respond to claims made on national television about three weeks ago.

“We are here this afternoon for a simple mission: to ask the national leadership of ADC if it’s true they disbursed ₦100 million to cover costs for the just-concluded election in FCT,” she said.

Christian emphasised that the group was not accusing the party but seeking transparency and accountability.

“We just want the truth; if it’s true, we’d like to know,” she added. “The allegation has been made publicly, and it is important for the ADC to either confirm or deny it.”

She noted that the group’s next line of action would depend on the response from the party.

“We’re waiting for their response to determine our next steps,” she stated.

Responding, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Queen Okiyi, urged calm among party members and the public, describing the allegation as a rumour that would be addressed by the party.

“We urge everyone to remain calm regarding the allegations about Senator Ireti. This is currently a rumour, and the party will address it,” she said.

Okiyi also defended the senator’s track record and cautioned against divisive rhetoric.

“The party has the interests of women at heart, and we’d like everyone to avoid divisive rhetoric. We will provide the necessary responses, so let’s stay united and focus on making ADC victorious in 2027,” she added.
