2027: Media guru Dele Momodu backs Atiku-Obi presidential ticket, says APC in obvious panic

The Publisher of Ovation Magazine and opposition party chieftain, Dele Momodu, has expressed support for a potential joint presidential ticket between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television yesterday, where he assessed the evolving political landscape and growing opposition alignment.

“I’d pair him (Atiku) with Peter Obi because they worked together in 2019, so they already share a similar temperament. Peter Obi came third in the last election, so you don’t have to work too hard to maintain and attract the same group of people who love him,” he said.

The former presidential aspirant also used the opportunity to criticise the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party is under pressure despite efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate support among governors, ministers, and lawmakers.

“They (APC) cannot believe that we will have maybe four or five major opposition leaders in the country, and some people will go and put fire in their houses so that none of them will be strong enough to stand against the leader,” he said.

“It is reality; let’s not hide behind one finger. I keep saying it, Tinubu, today, despite gathering all the governors, ministers, legislators, and what have you, you can see the obvious panic in the party,” Momodu added.

He further accused the ruling party of suppressing dissent within its ranks, suggesting that members are reluctant to speak out.

“Wherever dictatorship thrives, everybody keeps quiet. The majority of my friends are in APC; I pity them. Sometimes they just look like slaves; they grumble behind the master, but they dare not speak up. I pray for them; I wish them well because that is what they have chosen for themselves. I am telling you that Nigeria must be rescued,” he said.

Momodu also alleged interference in political processes, claiming the APC was attempting to frustrate opposition activities.

“It’s insane,” he said, accusing the APC of “blocking venues (for conventions), blocking courts.”

Despite these concerns, he maintained that such developments were inadvertently strengthening the ADC’s visibility and appeal among Nigerians.

He also dismissed fears of internal divisions within the opposition party, insisting that the ADC remains united even as it brings together prominent political figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
