The Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the killing of a mathematics teacher among those abducted from three schools in Oyo State, describing the incident as a grim reflection of what it called the worsening state of insecurity under the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said the recurring pattern of violent abductions and killings across the country shows a system overwhelmed and unable to respond decisively to the crisis.
The PDP argued that insecurity in Nigeria has moved beyond being an occasional national challenge and has instead become a daily reality for citizens across communities, reports Daily Independent.
It further maintained that what once appeared as isolated incidents has now become routine, accusing the government of failing to demonstrate either the capacity or commitment required to reverse the trend.
It stated that the latest abduction and killing adds to what it described as an unending chain of victims, further entrenching what it termed a “ransom economy” that has silently drained trillions of naira from ordinary households while emboldening criminal networks nationwide.
The opposition party extended condolences to the families of the deceased and all victims affected by the incident, while urging government officials to move beyond repeated assurances and public statements.
It insisted that security agencies must be compelled to deliver measurable and sustained results rather than periodic declarations and sympathy messages.
According to the statement, the continued targeting of schools is deliberate and deeply symbolic, representing an attack on the country’s future.
It warned that Nigeria, already grappling with one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children globally, risks further deterioration if school attacks persist unchecked.
The party cautioned that continued assaults on educational institutions could reduce school attendance and weaken literacy levels nationwide, with long-term consequences for national development.
The PDP further noted that the kidnapping of students has become increasingly routine under the current administration, while expressing concern that official responses have remained inconsistent and insufficient in addressing the scale of the threat.
It urged President Tinubu to channel the same level of political will and strategic attention deployed in managing political contests into the urgent task of securing lives and protecting educational institutions across the country.
The party also advocated a comprehensive, whole-of-society security framework anchored on genuine political commitment, stronger community participation, and improved institutional coordination, arguing that such an approach would deliver more sustainable outcomes.
It concluded that the government faces a defining choice between confronting the security crisis with decisive action or accepting responsibility for its continued deterioration.
