APC chieftain former Governor Goje cries foul after losing primary election

One of the greatest political upsets in Gombe State was recorded after Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje cried foul after losing his party’s (APC) Senatorial ticket to represent Gombe Central for the fourth time.

The result of the APC direct primary for the Senatorial District was announced in Kumo town by Dr Habu Dahiru, the returning officer of the election, who declared Ahmed Mohammed, a retired DCP, as the winner of the election after polling 42,785 votes to defeat the current Senator and former Governor of the State, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, who got 10,425 votes.

But reacting to the outcome of the election, Senator Goje, one of the top politicians in the state, who spoke through his Special Assistant, Alhaji Ahmed Isa Kashere, described the result as fake, reports Daily Independent.

In a press release issued to newsmen last night, the day of the election, Goje’s SA described the result as fake, while calling on the constituents to remain calm.

According to Ahmed Isa, some sections of the media and a few social media platforms have been flooded with fabricated results claiming to reflect the outcome of the exercise.

Alhaji Ahmed Isa’s release reads further, “On behalf of His Excellency, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, I wish to advise the good people of Gombe Central Senatorial District, comprising Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas, to disregard the fake results being circulated by enemies of our great party as the outcome of the APC primary election for Gombe Central Senatorial District.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the official result of the primary election has not yet been announced. In line with the guidelines issued by the national headquarters of our party, the APC, the authentic results will be released in Abuja.

“We therefore urge all party members, supporters, and the general public to remain patient and await the official declaration of the results.

“As a respected lawmaker and elder statesman, His Excellency remains committed to due process and will continue to abide strictly by the rules and regulations of the party,” he said.

Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje was Governor of Gombe State from 2003 to 2011 and has been in the Senate since 2011 after completing his two terms as governor.

His attempt to return to the Senate in 2027, if he wins the election, would have been his fourth term in the Senate.
