Akwa Ibom oldies applaud Gov Eno on plans for elderly people’s home

As Akwa Ibom Government is concluding plans for the construction of Elderly People’s Home in the state, oldies have applauded  Governor Eno for placing issues concerning them on his priority list.

This was made known over the weekend when the elderly in the state, under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Elderly Citizens Assembly, AKECA paid a courtesy visit on the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong in his office.

Speaking through the progenitor and founder of the organisation, Mkpisong Ememobong Essien, the oldies, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for considering a conducive estate for them  with social amenities, health and recreational facilities towards their life longevity.

Mkpisong Essien who thumbed up this novelty plan of Governor Umo Eno said, the initiative was very welcoming, having seen it worked out successfully during his years in oversea countries, adding that, he had even penned it down among the plans of the Elderly Citizens Assembly and therefore is very heartwarming that the government is bringing it to reality very soon in his days.

He said, the news of government’s readiness to take-on the project is a clarion call to the aged persons in the state to rise up to this window of opportunity to relax and enjoy the care inherent in the proposed home towards elongation of their lives rather than wave it aside as a foreign culture alien to Akwa Ibom people and indeed the entire Nigerian society.

The group used the occasion to thank Governor Eno for the re-appointntment of Comrade Ini Ememobong as the Commissioner for Information, reiterating that his work in the management of the information machinery of government and the administration of the Ministry of Information speaks volumes worthy of commendation.

Mkpisong Essien further said, the organisation was also in the Ministry to introduce the new duly elected International President of the Akwa Ibom Elderly Citizens Assembly, Obong (Bar) Emmanuel Archibong and his exco members to the commissioner, having successfully handed-over after eight years of stewardship as the founder / President of the organisation.

While welcoming the Akwa Ibom Elderly Citizens Assembly to the Ministry, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong said, Governor Umo Eno is committed to the welfare and longevity of the aged in the state hence his move to provide them with a conducive estate furnished to taste with social amenities for the comfort and leisure of the elderly in our society.

Represented by the Information ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Akparawa James Edet, the state information helmsman congratulated the progenitor of the Assembly for piloting the affairs of the organisation successfully since inception for eight years until his handing-over to the newly elected executive Council.

The commissioner said the Government of Governor Umo Eno was ever ready to shoulder the challenges of the aged in the state while the Ministry of Information was opened to partnership with AKECA with free access to all the Ministry’s information and media platforms for sensitization and enlightenment on issues pertaining to the elderly and aged in the society.

The event was attended, by the Management staff of the ministry, featured the presentation of copies of the 2024 State Calendar and Diaries to AKECA.
