Governor Adeleke campaign tackles APC, Police over violence in Osun

•Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State

The Imole Campaign Council for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke has tackled the All Progressives Congress in Osun State over the spate of fresh electoral violence in the state.

In a statement today, Adeleke campaign spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, condemned the killing of innocent citizens in the state ahead of the August 15, 2026.

According to him, in a democracy, elections are won through the ballot, and not through the use of bullets, reports Daily Independent.

Olajengbesi also accused the Osun State Police Command of selective enforcement of law and order in the state, tasking the police of protecting all citizens from violent characters regardless of political affiliation.

Olajengbesi said, “The recent escalation of political violence in Osun is a threat to us all. The loss of innocent lives has no place in a civil society. Democracy cannot thrive where citizens live in fear.

“The Osun APC must come to terms with a simple political reality. Elections are won through the confidence of the people and not through violence. The people of Osun State have become politically conscious, and no amount of political desperation can substitute for public trust.

“The Inspector General of Police and all security agencies must know that every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, must be guaranteed equal protection under the law. There must be no room for selective enforcement or impunity.

“The people of Osun have demonstrated time and again that they cannot be intimidated. When the governorship election is held, it is the ballot that will determine the future of our state, not bullets, not fear, and not violence.”

The political climate in Osun State has reached a fever pitch of late. Political thugs on Saturday killed a 14-year-old boy in the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat of the state, with the father of the deceased noting that police operatives were close to the scene of the incident and watched as hoodlums shot and killed his son.

Earlier in the month, political thugs also killed a resident of Ile-Ife and injured about four others during a shootout. The Adeleke camp and that of APC’s candidate Bola Oyebamiji have traded blame over the killings and violence.
