Abductors of students of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Jos in Plateau State have established contact with the families of the kidnapped students.

The kidnapped have demanded a ransom of ₦50 million to secure the release of their hostages, reports Channels TV.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the varsity, in a statement by its spokesman Adeniran Adebanjo, said contact has already been established with the families of the affected students, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, and other concerned stakeholders.

The statement added that efforts are ongoing as the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of 50 million naira for the students’ release.

“We understand that this news is deeply troubling to everyone. At this time, we urge the entire university community to remain calm and keep faith. Security operatives are fully engaged in addressing the situation, and we are hopeful that a peaceful resolution will be reached soon,” the statement partly read.

Thirteen students travelling to Enugu for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students were abducted on Thursday night along the Otukpo-Enugu Road.
