Ace comedian Nedu Wazobia addresses allegations, threatens legal action

Popular comedian, media personality and talk show host, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, known as Nedu Wazobia, held a press conference in Lagos on Thursday to address recent controversies surrounding him.

Nedu clarified his departure from the Honest Bunch Podcast, stating it was a personal decision and not a result of being fired, reports Saturday Vanguard.

“Let me clarify that I wasn’t fired from The Honest Bunch Podcast. I decided to step away when the attacks became personal. So that the show can go on,” he explained.

The controversy erupted following allegations made on the podcast by comedian and reality TV star, DeeOne, claiming social media critic Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse is gay. VeryDarkMan subsequently accused Nedu of orchestrating the allegations and further alleged sexual exploitation of female guests on the show.

Nedu, known for his comic Alhaji Musa character, announced he would be withdrawing from public accessibility.

“My job was to ask questions that would spark controversies and debates, which I successfully accomplished,” he stated. Expressing disillusionment, he said, “To be honest, I’m done being nice. My niceness has been taken for granted, and I’ve been abused by people who claim to be my friends. I’m tired of being used and taken advantage of. I respectfully ask that if you have my number, please delete it. I don’t want to be reachable or accessible anymore. The nice part of Nedu is dead and buried. I’m no longer going to be a nice guy; I’m done being nice,” he said.

Nedu and his management specifically refuted allegations of fraud and financial misconduct related to the Nedu Scholarship Foundation (NDSCHF). In a statement, they asserted, “Nedu Wazobia and Tokindrumz Management unequivocally refute all allegations of fraud concerning the Nedu Scholarship Foundation (NDSCHF). All funds for the NDSCHF initiative were managed by a globally recognized social enterprise, ensuring full accountability. At no point did Nedu personally handle or control donations. Comprehensive financial documents, vendor agreements, and communications have been submitted to relevant authorities and are available for review.”

Tokindrumz Management’s Chief Operations Officer, Sarah Williams-Konha, condemned the accusations against Nedu. “The accusations against Nedu are no longer just petty issues; they have crossed a line. We will not tolerate any further attacks on his character. Lawyers will be taking action, and necessary steps will be taken to address these false accusations.”

Regarding VeryDarkMan’s claims about Nedu’s alleged sexual relationships with female guests on the show, both Nedu and his management declined to comment, stating they would not respond to gossip and hearsay.

Nedu also debunked rumors of being hospitalised, stating that he is “hale and hearty.”
