PSG hopeful of beating Chelsea to Osimhen

•Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been one of the best players in Serie A since joining Napoli from LOSC Lille in September 2020.

The move initially raised eyebrows after the Partenopei shelled out €75 million to sign a largely unproven striker, reports Saturday Independent.

However, the 25-year-old has fulfilled his tremendous potential to become a pivotal figure for Napoli.

The Nigerian international was instrumental as Napoli ended a wait of over three decades to win the Serie A title last season.

However, the reigning champions and the player have been sub-par for much of the 2023/24 campaign. Osimhen has still managed a decent tally of 15 goals and four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

However, Osimhen’s long-term future at Napoli is uncertain after signing a new contract that has a release clause. So, the decision of a transfer is out of Napoli’s hands, as suitors can trigger the clause to secure his services.

The former Lille striker has no shortage of interested clubs, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain keen on signing him.

Chelsea’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. While the Blues have been more productive this season than the last, they still do not have a reliable striker. The Napoli talisman is thus an option worth considering, with Chelsea reportedly looking to discuss payment terms for him.

As for PSG, they will likely lose Kylian Mbappe as a free agent in the summer transfer window. With Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos blowing hot and cold this season, the Ligue 1 champions need a top-class striker. Osimhen is thus a viable target for PSG.

The report has claimed that the French bigwigs are confident of beating Chelsea to Osimhen’s signature. With a move in the summer transfer window possible, it will be interesting to see if he joins PSG or if the Blues secure his services.
