Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as an early frontrunner in the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after winning in five states in results released so far from the ongoing exercise.

Atiku has recorded victories so far in Sokoto, Abia, Gombe, Ebonyi and Zamfara states, ahead of other contenders, former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, reports Vanguard.

Although the ADC national leadership is yet to officially release collated results from the presidential primary, this report shows figures obtained from party officials and state collation centres.

In Gombe State, Atiku polled 139,334 votes, while Amaechi secured 1,150 votes and Hayatu-Deen got 464 votes. In Abia, Atiku scored 25,153 votes against Amaechi’s 18,339 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 3,264 votes.

Ebonyi results showed Atiku polling 15,300 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen recorded 2,200 and 200 votes, respectively. In Sokoto, Atiku secured 69,431 votes, with Amaechi polling 292 votes and Hayatu-Deen 319 votes. Zamfara also went in Atiku’s favour, with the former vice president polling 60,500 votes ahead of Hayatu-Deen’s 436 votes and Amaechi’s 191 votes.

The ongoing primary is expected to determine the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
