Afegbua, 7 others confirmed as commissioners in Edo

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 21, 2025 1960 Minutes read0

•Prince Kassim Afegbua

The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed eight nominees for appointment as commissioners.

Those confirmed are Prince Kassim Afegbua, Nosa Adams, Yakubu Oshiorenua, Felix Akhabue, Prof. Omorodion Ignatius, Ohimai Ehijimetor, Eugenia Abdallah and Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi.

The confirmation followed a request from Governor Monday Okpebholo, which was considered by the House Committee on Rules, Business and Government House.

Presenting its report, the committee listed 11 findings with one recommendation, which the lawmakers adopted.

The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, said the nominees were all indigenes of the state, competent and qualified to serve as commissioners.

He urged them to work closely with the governor to advance the state’s development.

“I charge the new commissioners to be proactive and work in synergy with the governor to ensure that Edo State moves forward.”

Agbebaku, however, expressed concern over what he described as gender imbalance, noting that only one female was among the eight nominees.

The House thereafter cleared the nominees through a voice vote.
