Army, Navy personnel detained after clash in Bayelsa during Tinubu’s visit

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 11, 2026 971 Minutes read0

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have confirmed that personnel involved in a clash between operatives of the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army in Bayelsa State have been identified and taken into custody.

The development follows a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation between the two military services yesterday, Friday, April 10, 2026, the day President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Bayelsa State, reports Daily Trust.

In a statement issued today, the AFN disclosed that those directly involved in the incident are currently undergoing administrative procedures in line with existing military regulations and disciplinary frameworks.

The military authorities further stated that additional measures were being implemented to ensure accountability, prevent a recurrence, and reinforce inter-service cooperation.

While describing the incident as unfortunate, the AFN emphasised that it does not reflect the overall relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army, noting that both services continue to work in close synergy and mutual respect in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a unified and professional institution, bound by a common mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation,” the statement read.

It reiterated the military’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct, which it said are fundamental to the profession of arms.

The AFN also called on members of the public to remain calm and continue to support the Armed Forces in their efforts to maintain peace, security, and stability across the country.
