Yunusa Yusuf, convener of the Kagarko LGA Youths, Kaduna State, has expressed concern over worsening insecurity, saying about 70 percent of Nigerians are living in fear.

He recounted his personal efforts in contributing to ransom payments for kidnapped community members, highlighting the brazen demands of the bandits.

Yusuf, speaking on Channels TV, today, criticized the security response, calling it “shameful” and lacking in technological sophistication.

He said, “Security issues have almost consumed everybody in this country, I mean about 70 per cent of Nigerians are living in fear, I think somebody will help me to confirm that.

“In Kagarko Local Government, as I young man I think I have severally contributed money just to be able rescue some of our people in the hands of kidnappers.

“In several cases they asked us to bring bikes, they asked us to bring Bajaj which is about a million naira, food stuffs, serve us letters, we have gotten to the point where kidnappers will serve our community letters that they are coming.

“And I want to say clearly that the security in this country is not helping matter, let’s be honest, the technological approach towards security is shameful.

“We cannot continue practicing what we are practicing in this country in this way, you cannot be too visible and those kidnappers after you passed they would come attack communities and go unchallenged.

“In this country we have seen a situation where kidnappers would take a bunch of a whole 30 people in a community, all the surrounding communities within the FCT are been surrounded by not the military or security agencies but by the kidnappers, they have taken the job of the security agencies in Nigeria, what a shame.”
