Bandits attack Immigration outpost, cart away rifles, abduct officer

•Immigration officers

Bandits have attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service Outpost in Belia community of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

In the course of the attack, the bandits abducted an officer of the service identified as Umar Yusuf and they also ransacked the armoury and several service rifles were carted away, reports Daily Independent.

The attackers, rode in on motorcycles and launched the assault in broad daylight at about 10 a.m. yesterday as they overpowered officers manning the facility.

It was gathered that the outpost is located along Babanna Road, close to the Benin Republic border.

An Immigration officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that two AK-47 rifles loaded with ammunition were seized from personnel during the attack.

Residents further said Babanna Road has, over the years, become notorious for banditry and terrorist attacks.

In November 2025, two soldiers were killed and an unspecified number of others — including civilians and security operatives —were injured when terrorists attacked a convoy belonging to the member representing Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa.

The lawmaker was reportedly travelling to Babanna in Borgu LGA when bandits ambushed his convoy at about 11 a.m., resulting in casualties among security personnel attached to him.

Similarly, in July 2025, a Superintendent of Immigration, identified simply as Suleiman, was killed by terrorists suspected to be ISWAP elements at a service outpost in Lumma Sanke along the Babanna–Wawa Road.

The officer reportedly lost his life when heavily armed attackers stormed the outpost, killed him, and set his body ablaze along with his service carbine.
