As reported just a while ago, FC Barcelona are inching closer towards their first signing for the 2025/26 season with a deal for Jonathan Tah on the horizon.
The Bayer Leverkusen and Germany defender appears all set to join the Catalans as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30, with the deal likely to be closed next month.
Tah’s imminent arrival, though, is likely to spell trouble for some of the existing squad members at Barça considering the overbooking in the centre-back department.
Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen to be sold
According to SPORT, it is Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen who will most likely be made available for sale by Barcelona in the summer once Tah joins.
Barça’s intention is to sell two centre-backs from the current squad once the German arrives, and these will not be Inigo Martinez or Pau Cubarsi, who are integral parts of Hansi Flick’s plans.
The Blaugrana are waiting to renew Ronald Araujo’s contract. There had been some talk of him being placed on the market if he did not renew before June, but it appears that he will remain at the club.
As such, Garcia and Christensen become the two expendable players for Deco and Flick for next summer.
Garcia has been getting some minutes but is by no means a regular starter for Flick. The former Manchester City man has admirers in La Liga as well as the Premier League.
As for Christensen, the Dane has been injured for much of the season but is expected to return to action in January. His contract runs until 2026, and Barcelona have not offered him a renewal.
Given the limited space in the team and the significant market demand for him, he could also be sold.
