Benue killings: It’s time to re-evaluate Nigeria’s existence – Youth group

A civil society organisation, the Concerned Awakened New Generation Youths (CANG-YOUTHS), has called for a re-evaluation of Nigeria’s existence and the relationship between its constituent nations.

Speaking through a statement signed by its Convener, Eniola Ishadele, the group lamented the level of bloodletting in Benue State, the latest which claimed over 200 lives, stressing that the massacre has brought to the fore the conversation about the country’s foundation.

It stated: “The Concern Awakened New Generation Youths is urging for a re-evaluation of Nigeria’s existence and the relationships between its constituent nations.”

The group stressed that Nigeria, a country born out of colonialism, had been criticised for perpetuating systems of oppression and marginalisation, adding that the time had come to assess whether this construct has truly served the nations that comprise it, reports Daily Independent.

It stressed: “We call on the nations that formed Nigeria to demand their right to self-determination. We urge President Tinubu to facilitate a peaceful process towards disintegration, allowing these nations to determine their own futures.

“The Concern Awakened New Generation Youth is a collective of young individuals advocating for change and self-determination in Nigeria.

“This publication represents our stance on the matter and our commitment to sparking a national conversation about the future of our nations.

“We call on Nigerians to join the Movement to reawaken and rethink our shared existence as a country today.

“We cannot continue to pretend that we are all one, nor treated as citizens. We cannot continue to shed daily tears and blood and still pretend that things will get better.

“We equally invite all individuals and nations affected by the Nigerian state to join us in demanding a future that is determined by us, for us.

“Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.”
