•Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State
The Benue State government has commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other partners for strengthening efforts to tackle flooding in the state.
Governor Hyacinth Alia gave the commendation during a full-scale flood simulation exercise held at the BSEMA Secretariat in Makurdi, reports The Nation.
The exercise, organised by NEMA, BSEMA, UNDP, UNICEF and other partners, was designed to test emergency response mechanisms and improve preparedness.
BSEMA Executive Secretary, Dr James Iorpuu, represented by Mr John Ati, said the simulation would help identify gaps in emergency preparedness and enhance coordination.
Acting Zonal Director of NEMA, Mohammed Suleiman, represented by Dr Tony Amama, also described the exercise as timely.
Governor Alia, represented by his Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs, Mimidoo Ann Kandef, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property from flooding and called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders.
