The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Ahmed Hardawa, is dead.

It was gathered that he died in Abuja after a brief illness, reports Daily Trust.

In a condolence message, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss, saying his demise was a profound tragedy to the state and the nation.

The governor in a statement signed by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity Mukhtar Gidado, described the late Ahmed Hardawa as a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership, whose wealth of experience and service orientation will be sorely missed at this critical time “in our democratic journey.”

His contributions to nation-building, both within and beyond Bauchi State, will remain indelible.”

Mohammed said late Hardawa was a distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian whose meritorious service to Bauchi State and the nation at large left a lasting legacy.

The governor said, “He was a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa states, where he discharged his responsibilities with unwavering integrity, diligence, and fairness, hallmarks that defined his entire career,”

“In his role as Chairman of BASIEC, Alhaji Hardawa played a critical role in deepening democratic governance at the grassroots through the promotion of transparent and credible electoral processes. His commitment to rule of law, and institutional development earned him the respect of colleagues, political actors, and the general public,” he added.

Mohammed also extended his heartfelt condolences behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State to the immediate family of the deceased, the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, friends, associates, and the entire people of Hardawa and Misau Emirate Councils.

The statement noted the funeral prayer (Janazah) for the late Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa would take place at the Emir’s Palace, Bauchi, by 5:00 pm, today.
