The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Muhammad Ali Pate, has announced a major policy on Caesarean section in the country.
A caesarean section, also known as a C-section, is a surgical procedure to deliver a baby through incisions in the mother’s abdomen and uterus. It’s performed when a vaginal delivery would be risky for the mother or baby.
According to the minister, henceforth all Caesarean sections shall be performed free for all women who require it in Nigeria.
The health minister disclosed this today at the ongoing Joint Annual Review of the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) for health at Transcorp Abuja.
He said, “the resources are available. This is in further effort to reduce maternal mortality in the country.”
