Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ajogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck and Afrobeats star Burna Boy, are flying the country’s flag as they join the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards nomination list.

The organisers announced the full list of nominees yesterday with Odumodu getting nominated for ‘Best International Flow’ while Burna Boy was nominated for ‘Best Live Performance’, reports Channels TV.

Since he gained his mainstream success in 2023, Odumodublvck has soared to commercial status becoming one of the biggest hip-hop stars in Africa and the first Nigerian artist to get a nomination for the category on BET Awards.

The 30-year-old will compete with rappers from France, Brazil, the UK, and South Africa to become the first Nigerian rapper to win a BET Hip Hop award.

Burna Boy, who has been nominated for the ‘Best Live Performance’, is to compete with popular artists including Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes and GloRilla.

Megan Thee Stallion leads this year’s awards with 12 nominations, followed closely by Kendrick Lamar with 11. Burna Boy and Odumodublvck each received one nomination.
