Celestial Church makes U-turn, drops Portable, Pasuma from performing at Praise Night after online bashing

•The vexatious poster

Celestial Church of Christ has made a U-turm on the invitation of Afrobeat singer, Habeeb Olalomi Oyegbile aka Portable and popular Fuji musician, Wasing Alabi Pasuma, to perform at the church’s praise night in Lagos.

The announcement of the singers’ proposed participation had set the social media on fire after it went viral on Wednesday.

Many Nigerians responded to the announcement on social media with a barrage of comments. Some called it disappointing, while others questioned whether the temple of God was becoming a place for amusement.

The leader of the Celestial Church of Christ International Headquarters in Ketu, Olatosho Oshoffa, vehemently disapproved of the invitation.

Oshoffa responded to the poster on his Facebook page, stating that he had notified the parish’s president of the performers’ cancellation from the event.

Oshoffa wrote, “Dear Celestians, I have just had a lengthy conversation with the Shepherd in Charge of the aforementioned Parish. He has promised to amend the posters.

“He has assured me that the aforementioned musicians in question won’t be attending the praise night. Without a doubt, that particular poster is highly unacceptable. God bless CCC. Amen.”

A netizen, Amuda Abiodun, commented on Olatosho Oshoffa’s post, saying, “God bless you, my dearest brother. It’s very thoughtful of you for the urgent intervention from your Office. Baba Oshoffa’s legacy must always be safe, secure, and protected. I am not a member of the church but CCC is a confirmed holy spirit filled and dominated Church.”

Another Facebook user, Olawale Aina, commented, “This is very awful. God’s Church is the Celestial Church of Christ. The leadership of the church must close this specific parish and inform the media that disciplinary action has been taken. The Church’s reputation can be restored in these ways. I adore C.C.C. so much, thus I was devastated to hear this terrible news.”

Mopelola Rachel Ogundele stated, “Note that he is a human and occasionally weak, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a Christ soldier.” My own is that there are shepherds who, in an attempt to keep their members happy, will occasionally go above and beyond. It’s well.

Mpress Lomo said, “Thank goodness swift action was taken. We’re not condemning Portable or any of the artists just protecting the image of this great fold. There’s a time and place for everything.”
