Constitutional reform not partisan affair – Kila •Patriots’ zonal exco named

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 12, 2024 2211 Minutes read0

•Prof Kila and Chief Anyaoku

The National Chairman of Patriots’ Strategy and Advocacy Committee on Constitutional Reform of Nigeria, Prof. Anthony Kila, has urged members of his committee and other Nigerians not to view constitutional reforms as a partisan affair but a nation and institution-building task.

The renowned political economist and celebrated public affairs analyst made this call while addressing the newly nominated executive members of zonal committees of the Patriots’ Strategy and Advocacy Committee on Constitutional Reform of Nigeria.

The Frontier reports that the Emeka Anyaoku-led group of eminent Nigerians, popularly known as The Patriots, inaugurated Zonal Advocacy Committees across the country’s six geopolitical zones in October.

“The committees will work to actualise a new People’s Constitution. Their task will be to engage and mobilise major stakeholders and people in these zones.  “Zonal Chairmen and Secretaries will coordinate the zonal committees’ activities across the country’s regions,” The Patriots confirmed this development in a statement made available to The Frontier today.

The statement was co-signed by the committee chairman and secretary, Prof. Anthony Kila and Dr Bilikisu Magoro, respectively.

The nominated committee members of the zonal executive committees are:

North Central: Dr Mike Omeri (Chairman) Hajiya Amina Saleh Jambo (Secretary) North East: Prof Maxwell Gidado (Chairman) Alh. Yakubu Musa Damagun (Secretary). North West: Prof Ibrahim Garba (Chairman) Hon Charity Stephen Shekari (Secretary) South East Mr Joe Atuyi (Chairman) Chief Ify Ezenwa South South Deacon Chris Iyovwaye (Chairman) Obonganwan Barbara James (Secretary) South West Chief Gboyega Adejumo, (Chairman) Dr Yinka Olarinmoye (Secretary)

It will be recalled that the Patriots visited President Bola Tinubu in August to make a firm case for a legitimate democratic people’s constitution that would make Nigeria work for all.

The group is currently making plans to meet with National Assembly leaders to make a case for a people’s democratic constitution to Senators and members of the House of Representatives and seek the support of legislators across the country.
