Couple nabbed for producing adulterated wine •Factory shut

The Zone 2 Police Command under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatoye Durosinmi has arrested a couple for producing and distributing adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The facility was also shut.

Policemen from the zone, on April 14, raided a property at Muibi Olawumi Close, off Ayetoto/Itẹle Road, Ado-Odo/Ota council, Ogun State, following intelligence.

Items recovered in the raid include unlabeled and branded bottles suspected to contain adulterated alcoholic beverages, containers filled with suspected mixing ingredients, as well as production equipment such as pumping machines, funnels, and sealing machines.

Margret Austine, who was present at the scene, admitted to her involvement in the illicit operation spanning six years, alongside her husband, Austine Idemudia, also known as ‘Baba Joshua’. Margret confessed that the adulterated products were sold to customers in Lagos and Ogun states.

The raid also yielded a cache of production-related items, including branded labels of Del-Mud, Del-Mud Royal, Smooth Brandy Wine Drinks in packs, a funnel containing a white handkerchief used for filtration, and a corkscrew, among other materials.

AIG Durosinmi emphasised the public health risks posed by adulterated products, and urged consumers to exercise vigilance when purchasing food and beverages.

He also assured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents within Lagos and Ogun states.
