Dangote Group denies ownership of truck involved in deadly crash

Dangote Group has denied ownership of a truck in a road accident that killed several people in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

The company, in a statement released today, said reports linking it to the incident were incorrect.

It said the truck with registration number JJJ 365 XB does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.

“Verified vehicle registration details confirm that the truck is owned and operated by an independent logistics company with no affiliation to Dangote Group,” the statement read.

“The truck was not conveying any Dangote products but was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks bearing various brand names.”

The accident occurred along the Owo–Ikare expressway near the gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, yesterday evening.

Witnesses said the vehicle lost control and rammed into roadside shops and pedestrians. Emergency responders confirmed multiple casualties.

Following the incident, comments on social media linked the truck to Dangote Group.

Dangote Industries said it maintains a strict policy on vehicle management, including proper branding, tracking, and operation by trained personnel.

The group added that all its trucks carry identifiable company logos and fleet numbers.

The company expressed sympathy to those affected and urged the public and media to verify information before attributing ownership of vehicles to it.

It also cautioned media organisations against using images of Dangote-branded trucks in connection with unrelated incidents.

The Ondo State government has said it would carry out investigations on the cause of the crash and work to identify the victims.

“Dangote Industries remain steadfast in its commitment to road safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible corporate citizenship across all its operations in Nigeria and beyond,” the statement read.

The accident, which occurred near the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), caused panic in the community after the truck reportedly lost control and rammed into several people.
