Delta Police impounds 25 vehicles over tinted glass permit directives •NBA fumes

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 3, 2025 1101 Minutes read0

The operatives of the Delta State Police Command have impounded 26 vehicles over their non-compliance with the tinted glass directives.

The Nigeria Police announced that the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit that was issued following directives from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reports Daily Independent.

The exercise, the command said, is in line with the existing laws and directives of Egbetokun, which apply to all vehicles with tinted glasses, whether factory or non-factory fitted.

The police advised those who would not comply with IGP Egbetokun’s directives to simply replace their vehicles’ windscreen or replace it with a factory-fitted transparent one as provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass)Act 2004.

In a swift move by the Delta Police Command, on its X account @DeltaPoliceNG(formerly Twitter) stated that over 25 cars that have violated the directives have had their cars seized and parked in the command’s premises.

NBA Vows To Represent Nigerians For Free

Meanwhile, members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) have kicked against what it termed as the “illegal” and an avenue to harass Nigerians over the tinted glass permit.

The NBA stated that the police do not have the constitutional right to impose fees for renewals on owners of tinted glass vehicles, as the force is not a revenue-generating institution.

In a statement yesterday, the Chairman of the NBA’s Public Interest Litigation Committee, Olukunle Edun (SAN), said: “We shall invoke the powers of the court to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force does not trample on the rights of Nigerians. Any citizen who is harassed by the police in the purported enforcement of the illegal tinted glass permit should feel free to contact any of the NBA branches.

Police Advises Motorists To Register Their Tinted Glass Per to Register online

The Police, in the face of the general criticism of the IGP Egbetokun’s directives, have been advised, for their own interests, to register their cars, buses and other vehicles in the official Police portal: WWW possap.gov.ng to avoid sanctions.
