Deposed Guinea President Embaolo should be charged for treason, says Nigerian lawmaker

•Overthrown President of Guinea, Umaro Sissoco Embaolo and Nigeran lawmaker, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere

The lawmaker representing Ideato federal constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has said that the deposed president of Guinea, Umaro Sissoco Embaolo, should be arrested and charged for treason for undermining the constitution of the country.

According to a press statement yesterday signed by the Reps member, the military coup in Guinea is wrong, but the Guinean President deserves what he got and should be charged for treason.

The statement reads, “The deposed, desperate President of Guinea disqualified all the major opponents that are contesting against him from different political parties, and the military disqualified him and took over the government, and he is crying that democracy is under attack. Is he not a fool?

“Any illegal takeover of power, either by hijacking the democratic process, by manipulating the judiciary or parliament, or by military overthrow, is the same and illegal.

“Therefore, Guinea should start anew because the deposed president doesn’t have a legitimate claim, or does the military.”

The lawmaker insists that ECOWAS should focus on a fresh transition, saying, “This stupid method of disqualification of major opponents was escalated by the Tanzanian woman that arrested and disqualified all her opponents which is currently destroying once peaceful Tanzania, now the rogue in Guinea followed suit and African Union and ECOWAS never did anything to stop these overthrow of people’s power to choose their leaders and should not complain when such actions come with consequences like what the Guinea guys have done. “Therefore, the sanctity of democracy, which encompasses inclusive and transparent participation and processes, must be respected.”

He also said that any leader who overthrows this process must face consequences that will help address such a treasonous act, stressing why the deposed president should be arrested.

“The deposed President of Guinea needs to be arrested and charged for treason for undermining the constitution, the electoral process, and stamping on the power of the people to choose, so that desperate elements trying to use the Tanzania option in any part of Africa, will retreat.”
