EASTER: Let celebration inspire hope for better Nigeria — Peter Obi tells citizens

•Peter Obi

As Christians across the country commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast despite the nation’s prevailing economic and governance challenges.

In an Easter message addressed to citizens, Obi acknowledged the difficult times many families are facing, particularly due to economic hardship, but encouraged them not to lose faith in the future of the country.

Drawing from the significance of the season, he noted that just as Good Friday precedes Easter Sunday, the nation’s current struggles should not be seen as permanent.

“We understand the heavy burden many families are carrying as a result of economic hardship. As we share in your struggles, we urge you not to lose heart. These difficult moments are temporary trials—our collective ‘cross’—that can lead to renewal if we remain resilient and committed to the common good,” the statement read.

Obi also highlighted ongoing concerns about governance and its impact on citizens’ daily lives, stressing the need for accountability, compassion, and responsible leadership as pathways to national renewal.

He maintained that Easter symbolises hope, sacrifice, and transformation, urging Nigerians to draw strength from its message as they navigate present challenges.

Expressing optimism about the country’s future, Obi said that with collective determination and faith, Nigeria can overcome its current difficulties and emerge stronger.

“We remain hopeful that, through God’s grace and the determination of our people, the journey ahead will lead to a brighter future. Though the road may be rough, we believe in a Nigeria that works for everyone,” the statement added.

The statement, signed by Obi, concluded with a call for unity, urging citizens to allow the spirit of Easter to renew their faith, strengthen their resolve, and inspire collective efforts toward building a just and prosperous nation.
