Edwin Clark’s legacy to air on national TV Sunday

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 9, 2025 2862 Minutes read0

•Late Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark

A special two-part documentary chronicling the life, struggles, and legacy of late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, will begin airing this weekend on national television.

The documentary, produced by the multimedia platform First News, is set to premiere on Arise News at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, and will also be available on the First News TV YouTube channel.

According to a statement today by the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of First News, Dr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the documentary celebrates Chief Clark’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and development.

The first part of the 30-minute production explores Clark’s early life, his pursuit of education against the odds, and his emergence as a formidable advocate for justice and equity.

It also features powerful testimonials from prominent Nigerians who worked closely with him, including moments he stood firm in the face of threats and intimidation.

The statement added that the second part of the documentary captured key ideals of the departed elder statesman and Pan-Nigerian, his death, and the lessons of his character and personality.

Speaking on the motivation for the project, Iworiso-Markson said the documentary aims to serve as a lasting tribute and a visual archive of Chief Clark’s legacy for future generations.

He said: “We all know that our revered father was a great man. Yes, there are stories about him, including his memoirs and book, *’Brutally Frank’*, but we were driven by the need to have a video document to help preserve his legacies and also for the coming generations to know that there was a man called Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark who came, saw, and conquered.

“There is so much to learn from him, and the documentary will provide that guide which in turn will shape the thought process of our young ones. We believe that with this little effort of ours, more E.K. Clarks will emerge and continue to push for what is right for our country.

“To put it succinctly, the documentary is a fitting tribute to Chief Clark’s remarkable life and legacy, offering valuable lessons for generations to come.

“In putting this documentary together, we traversed the length and breadth of the country, interviewing those who knew him, worked closely with him, and could bear eloquent testimony to his unique nature.”

He expressed gratitude to several key figures who supported the documentary’s production, including Governors Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), as well as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Group CEO of Century Group, Ken Etete.

Acknowledgement was also extended to former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Bayelsa Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, members of PANDEF, INC, IYC, and the Clark family for their contributions.
