Engine roller kills factory worker at steel company

•A factory worker operating an engine roller

A worker has been reportedly killed by a Roller machine at the KAM Steel Integrated Company, along the Sagamu-Ogijo expressway in Ogun State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday night after 27-year-old Yahaya Ibrahim slipped on the rotating machine and got entangled by some parts of the roller engine.

Inside sources said the victim was crushed to death by the machine after a fruitless effort to save him by other workers, reports Daily Trust.

The vice chairperson of KAM Holding Limited, Dr Bolanle Yusuf, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, describing it as an industrial accident.

“The incident happened on Saturday and we reported the incident at the Sagamu police station,” she told our correspondent in a telephone interview.

She explained that the deceased was not an employee of KAM Steel, but he worked under a contractor called ‘Vento.’

Asked if the deceased wore protective gear while at work, she said “the contract worker was not operating the machine at the time of the accident.”

The police spokesman, Omolola Odutola, also confirmed the incident as an “industrial accident.”

Odutola added that the deceased’s body had been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue.
