EPL: Tottenham thrash 10-man West Ham 3-0

•Tottenham players celebrating a goal

Tottenham Hotspur piled misery on West Ham United with a commanding 3-0 victory in today’s London derby, sealing their first win at the London Stadium since November 2019.

The Hammers began brightly with Mohammed Kudus drawing boos from Spurs fans while being heavily involved in early exchanges.

El Hadji Diouf’s deliveries troubled the visitors, and Lucas Paquetá went close with a shot that drifted just wide.

West Ham thought they had fallen behind midway through the first half when Cristian Romero headed home from Kudus’ corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul by Micky van de Ven.

Despite that reprieve, Tottenham gradually asserted control. Pape Matar Sarr and Pedro Porro combined to threaten, while Guglielmo Vicario survived a nervy moment from a Jarrod Bowen cross.

The half ended goalless, but the momentum had shifted towards Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Spurs wasted no time after the restart, breaking the deadlock two minutes in as Sarr nodded home from Xavi Simons’ header.

Bowen tried to rally the hosts, but Vicario stood firm before West Ham’s hopes collapsed when Tomáš Souček was sent off for a reckless challenge on João Palhinha.

From the resulting free-kick, Lucas Bergvall looped a header beyond Mads Hermansen to double Tottenham’s advantage.

Van de Ven then capped the victory in the 64th minute, finishing neatly into the bottom corner to spark jubilant celebrations from the travelling fans, who chorused ‘olé’ as their side cruised to victory.

The win, Tottenham’s third in four league games this season, underlined their bright start to the campaign. In contrast, West Ham’s earlier triumph over Nottingham Forest quickly faded into memory as David Moyes’ men slumped to a fourth defeat in five matches across competitions.
