The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disengaged 43 personnel from its service over offences related to desertion, scandalous conduct and patrol misconduct.
A statement issued today by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said 31 officers were dismissed for desertion, five for scandalous behaviour, while seven were disengaged for patrol-related misconduct.
The statement partly read, “In another applaudable development, the FRSC has taken decisive and uncompromising disciplinary action by disengaging 43 personnel from its service over acts bordering on desertion, scandalous conduct, and patrol misconduct.
“These affected officers comprise 31 dismissed for desertion, 5 for scandalous behaviour, and 7 for patrol related misconduct.
“This action, just like others of its kind sends an unequivocal message because, the FRSC badge is a symbol of honour and responsibility. Any officer who chooses to violate the standards of this noble institution will face the full weight of the Corps’ disciplinary machinery. ”
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the action as a reaffirmation of the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline and ethical violations.
He said the FRSC, as a professional paramilitary organisation, would not tolerate conduct capable of undermining public trust, institutional integrity or its mandate.
Mohammed noted that desertion constituted a serious breach of the service oath, especially in an organisation responsible for road safety nationwide.
He added that scandalous behaviour and patrol misconduct eroded public confidence and ran contrary to the Corps’ values of discipline, transparency and service.
“The Corps remains a professional, paramilitary organisation guided by strict operational standards, and will not condone any behaviour capable of undermining public trust, institutional integrity, or the set objectives of the Corps.
“Desertion represents a grave breach of service oath and operational responsibility, particularly in a safety critical organisation entrusted with protecting the lives of millions of road users daily.
“Scandalous behaviour and patrol misconduct directly erode public confidence and contradict the core values of discipline, transparency, and service excellence which the Corps upholds,” the statement said.
The Federal Road Safety Corps is a paramilitary agency responsible for road traffic administration and safety management in Nigeria.
As part of its internal control mechanisms, the Corps operates a disciplinary system to address misconduct, breaches of service rules and actions capable of undermining public confidence.
In recent years, the FRSC leadership has emphasised professionalism, ethical conduct and accountability among its personnel, particularly amid concerns over conduct during patrol operations and service delivery.
The latest dismissals follow internal investigations and are in line with the Corps’ stated zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline.
