FG launches live Tracker App for Nigerians to report ministers, others

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 9, 2024 2672 Minutes read0

The federal government has unveiled a Delivery Tracker App which would enable every Nigerian to view the deliverables and key performance indicators (KPIs) for all ministries and give their assessment on the performance of each of the ministries’ indicators.

It also listed eight priority areas it wants citizens to monitor and report on. They include: economy, education, health, energy and natural resources, infrastructure and education, among others, reports Daily Sun.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination as well as Head of Policy Coordination and Delivery Unit (CDCU), Hadiza Bala-Usman, launched the App at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, yesterday.

She said the launch of the tracker was a promise made by Tinubu to ensure inclusive governance in his administration by allowing citizens to access and give feedback to the government.

“All ministers would be held accountable for deliverables to the citizens… In arriving at the deliverables and key performance indicators, the CDCU, supported by development partners and consultants, held numerous bilateral meetings with all the ministers, permanent secretaries, and their respective technical teams over a period of six weeks. The bilateral sessions looked at the mandate of the respective ministries in line with the Presidential Priority Areas and arrived at the final deliverable and KPIs.

“For the record, the Presidential Priority Areas are: Reforming the economy to deliver sustained and inclusive growth; Strengthening national security for peace and prosperity; Boosting agriculture to achieve food security; Unlocking energy and natural resources for sustainable development; Enhancing infrastructure and transportation as enablers for growth; Focusing on education, health, and social investment as essential pillars of development as well as accelerating diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, creative arts, manufacturing, and innovation and Improving governance for effective service delivery.

“For each of these priority areas, we agreed on specific deliverables and developed KPIs which formed the basis for the Performance Bond which all ministers and permanent secretaries signed with the president in November 2023. These parameters will guide the Quarterly Assessments and Annual Scorecards, which the CDCU is mandated to present to the president.

“The president also insisted that the pain points of citizens must be recognised in developing the deliverables and KPIs. In line with the directive, the CDCD worked with our partners to further review the deliverables into granular issues that have a direct impact on the lives of Nigerians…”

The Special Adviser to the president on Policy and Coordination, Nasiru Yamamma, who is also the head of the CCDU, confirmed “the App is live and it’s so easy to use. The App covers the 8 priorities of the federal government. The desk officers in the ministries are using the same tools and it’s transparent, without any breakage and we are able to track everybody…”

Earlier, the Development Director, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office UK, Cynthia Rowe, noted that the tracker App and “the monitoring system is all about trust of the citizen in government. We commend the government for following through with the recommendation of citizen feedback in the system. There would be eyewitnesses and citizens can connect with the government and report back to the government through the feedback system.”
