Fire razes Access Bank branch, residential building

•Fire outbreak

Two separate fire outbreaks were recorded yesterday in Kano State, affecting an Access Bank branch in Dawakin Tofa and a residential building in Kumbotso Local Government area of the state.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that the first incident occurred at about 1:17pm at Access Bank, Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa, reports Daily Trust.

According to the service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, a distress call was received from a resident, Mr. Michael, reporting the blaze.

He said firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station rushed to the scene and found a one-storey building of about 100 by 80 feet in flames.

The Service said the fire engulfed a generator and partially affected an electrical transformer before it was contained.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Later that evening, at about 6:19pm, another fire broke out at Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, in Kumbotso LGA.

Abdullahi said firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Station responded to the call and found a ground-floor residential building of about 40 by 30 feet already ablaze.

He explained that the fire affected two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen before it was brought under control using jets from the Sharada Fire Truck, supported by nearby factories.

The cause of the incident is also being investigated.

The PRO said the Director of the state fire service, Alhaji Sani Anas, appealed to residents to remain vigilant and adopt proactive measures to reduce fire outbreaks.

He urged households to equip their homes with functional fire extinguishers and observe basic fire-safety practices.
