Former justice minister Malami accuses EFCC of illegally sealing his Abuja residence

•Malami

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of resorting to self-help by sealing his Abuja residence without due process.

Speaking in Abuja today, Malami claimed that armed operatives of the commission stormed his home in Maitama and evicted members of his family without presenting a valid court order.

The ex-AGF described the action as unwarranted and a clear disregard for judicial procedure, stressing that it was improper for the anti-graft agency to move against the property while the matter remains before the court, reports The Nation.

Malami noted that the property in question is the subject of an ongoing legal dispute, adding that he had already filed an application seeking to vacate an interim forfeiture order earlier granted.

He further argued that with the Federal High Court in Abuja having fixed April 20 for the hearing of his application, the commission ought to have awaited the court’s determination instead of taking unilateral action.
