Former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Parry Osayande Is dead.

The news of Osayande’s passage was broken yesterday while the final funeral rights of the former Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase was being rounded up with a church thanksgiving, reports Daily Independent.

Parry Osayande, an indigene of Edo State, died a day before his 89th Birthday, after a brief illness, according to a family source.

The tragedy struck in the early hours of yesterday when the funeral Thanksgiving service of 69-year-old former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase also from Edo State, was being celebrated.

Recall that Parry Osayande was the Commissioner of Police in the defunct Bendel State (Edo and Delta State) during the Anini saga, which terrorised Nigeria in the 1980s.

Under his watch as commissioner of police, the infamous armed robber, Lawrence Anini, was captured and executed during the regime of former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.

A Benin-based lawyer, Jefferson Uwoghiren also confirmed Osayande’s death in a post via his Facebook account yesterday.

He wrote: “What a remarkable life of public service. United in service of a grateful nation. United in death. Peace Profound”.

Arase was laid to rest at the weekend at his hometown in Sabogida Ora, with full guard of honour by the Nigeria Police Force.
