•Fire burns filling station in Abuja

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) said it has successfully contained a fire incident involving a petroleum tanker at AYM Shafa Filling Station in Area 3, Garki, Abuja, with all responding personnel and firefighting appliances safely returning to their respective stations.

The incident, it said, involved a tanker carrying approximately 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit during product discharge, reports Channels TV.

The agency disclosed today that the fire affected part of the adjoining FCT-IRS three-storey building before firefighters successfully contained it through coordinated operations involving multiple firefighting appliances, medium water jets and foam compound.

It said that four adult males sustained various degrees of injuries and were promptly evacuated by a NEMA ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The Federal Fire Service said they received treatment and have since been discharged.

“The Federal Fire Service (FFS) confirms that the fire incident involving a petroleum tanker at AYM Shafa Filling Station, beside the FCT-IRS Office, along Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti Way, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, has been successfully extinguished.

“The Controller-General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who served as the Incident Commander, personally coordinated response operations at the scene and remained there until the early hours of today to ensure the incident was fully brought under control,” it said in a statement by its spokesperson, DCF P.O. Abraham.

Following a thorough inspection of the scene, firefighters confirmed that there was no further fire or casualty, while all responding personnel and appliances safely returned to their respective stations.

The Service commended residents, motorists and members of the public for their patience, cooperation and compliance with safety directives during the emergency operation, noting that their understanding and support contributed to the smooth conduct of the response.

The FFS also expressed gratitude to sister emergency response agencies, including the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police Force and other supporting organisations for their collaboration in managing the incident.

The Controller-General further commended firefighters and emergency responders for their courage, professionalism, discipline and commitment to protecting lives and property.

Meanwhile, an investigation has commenced to determine the immediate and remote causes of the fire.

According to the Service, the outcome will help guide appropriate preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets through prompt, professional and coordinated emergency response.
