Major General Everest Okoro has officially assumed duty as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force, Operation DELTA SAFE.

He took over from Major General Emmanuel Emekah during a change of command ceremony held at the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt, reports Channels TV.

The development was announced in a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam.

In his farewell address, Major General Emekah expressed appreciation to officers and soldiers of the Division for their discipline, loyalty and support throughout his tenure.

He noted that the Division’s operations contributed to increasing Nigeria’s daily crude oil production from about 1.3 million barrels to 1.5 million barrels per day. He urged personnel to remain disciplined and extend the same level of commitment and cooperation to the new commander.

In his remarks, Major General Okoro thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment.

He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor by sustaining efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and support initiatives aimed at boosting oil production to enhance national revenue.

The ceremony featured the signing of handover notes, the presentation of insignia, decoration of the new GOC with the Divisional Badge, the presentation of the Divisional Flag, and a group photograph.
