The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the two-time elected Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, with his Certificate of Return at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo, shortly after Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi received his own certificate.
At about 1:30 p.m. today, Adeleke received his Certificate of Return at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo, following his victory in the Osun State governorship election, reports Daily Independent.
The governor contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 local government areas.
Presenting the certificate, INEC officials said the exercise was in line with the law governing the electoral process and confirmed the mandate given to Adeleke and his deputy by voters in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Adeleke thanked INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders for their roles in the conduct of the election.
He also called on those who contested against him to join hands with his administration in moving Osun State forward, saying the state was bigger than any individual.
The presentation was witnessed by members of the Accord Party, supporters and other stakeholders who gathered at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo.
