There is chaos in the Edo State House of Assembly over plans by lawmakers to repeal the 2023 law granting them financial autonomy.
Assembly workers said repealing the law would reduce their salaries and could lead to sackings, reports The Nation.
It was reported that Majority Leader Sunday Ojezele has been pencilled in to present a motion to repeal the bill.
Leadership of the Edo Assembly Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), led by Farouk Haruna, declined to comment on the issue.
When contacted, Speaker of the Edo Assembly, Yekini Idiaye, said the lawmakers had been in an Executive Session.
Idiaye said he was not aware of any protest or plan to repeal the bill granting autonomy to the Assembly.
The Speaker said they were about to go into the Chamber at 2:15 pm.
